Description of Work

Reporting to the Associate Warden of Programs at a minimum custody correctional facility, this position serves as a Classification and Re-Entry Manager and will direct programming for the re-entry of offenders. Job responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:

Job responsibilities
  • Administering programs with a broad scope and complexity at a minimum custody correctional facility.
  • Directing major programs as the direct contact for transitional re-entry services, both in-house and within the community.
  • Assisting with ensuring that Community-Based Programs are run efficiently according to NCDAC policy. Additional program areas are Offender Classification and Correctional Programs (Incentive Wage, Adult Basic Education, Volunteer Programs, Religion, Recreation Residential Substance Abuse and Supportive Counseling).
  • Meeting with local constituents and the Division of Community Supervision (DCS) staff and maintaining positive working relationships.
  • Supervising 3 Program Supervisors and subordinate staff who are responsible for the implementation, development and the maintenance of the programs on a daily basis.
  • Conducting in-house audits on all Programs Supervisors and their staff’s caseloads to ensure compliance with Programs Standards and Case Management Policy.
  • Coordinating programs and custody staff.
  • Serving in a custody role during emergency situations, such as disturbances and escapes.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)/Management Preferences
  • Documented experience with report writing.
  • Documented knowledge of case management practices, or supportive counseling techniques and/or interviewing techniques for intake assessments.

About Wake Correctional Center

Wake Correctional Center in Raleigh is a minimum-security prison for adult males. It is primarily a work unit in that 80 percent of the offenders leave the facility each day for incentive wage work assignments in various state agencies in the Wake County area. Offenders also work at other area adult correctional-facilities and Correction Enterprises operations. There are also offenders nearing their release date that participate on the work release program, leaving the facility to work for businesses in the community.

Incentive wage work assignments are also available at the prison in the food service, clothes house, janitorial, landscaping, maintenance, canteen, and recreation areas. Wake Technical Community College works with the prison to provide full-time vocational classes in Certified Communications, Heating/Air Conditioning and Electrical Wiring.
