As the Associate Dean and Director of the Office of Student Conduct and Community Standards (OSCCS), you will provide strategic and operational leadership for the university’s undergraduate student community standards process. The position oversees the fair, equitable, and legally sound administration of conduct processes involving undergraduate students and collaborates with graduate and professional schools regarding matters within their respective jurisdictions.

The Associate Dean/Director provides consultation, direction, and support to staff and hearing officers; serves as a hearing officer and hearing-panel facilitator; responsible for the recruitment and development of conduct-board members; contributes to university policy development; and promotes education regarding student rights, responsibilities, and community standards. This position works closely with the Office for Institutional Equity, Office of General Counsel, graduate and professional schools, faculty and academic units, residential life, campus safety, counseling and health services, and other university partners.

The position also participates in student crisis response and a rotating 24-hour dean-on-call schedule. All candidates must submit a cover letter with the application. Applications without a cover letter will not be reviewed.

As the strategic and operational leader of OSCCS, you will guide the university’s undergraduate student conduct process, influence institutional policy, support student development, and serve as a trusted advisor during some of the most complex and meaningful moments in student life.

• Provide strategic leadership and oversight of Duke University’s undergraduate student conduct system.
• Ensure conduct processes are administered consistently, equitably, and in compliance with institutional policies and applicable laws, including Title IX, FERPA, and the Clery Act.
• Oversee the full lifecycle of student and organizational conduct matters, from intake and investigation through resolution and case closure.
• Serve as a hearing officer and facilitate conduct hearing panels involving faculty, staff, and student representatives.
• Prepare comprehensive written decisions, reports, and communications related to conduct proceedings.
• Advance educational and restorative approaches to conflict resolution, accountability, and student learning.
• Maintain accurate and confidential conduct records using university case management systems.

• Provide leadership, coaching, consultation, and support to Associate and Assistant Deans, hearing officers, and conduct board members.
• Recruit, train, and develop members of the Student Conduct Board and Appellate Board.
• Oversee hearing panel assignments and administrative processes that support effective case management.
• Coordinate and support the Honor Council and other OSCCS-affiliated programs and initiatives.
• Foster a culture of collaboration, accountability, continuous learning, and excellence within the office.

• Partner with university leaders and campus stakeholders to review, develop, and implement conduct policies and procedures.
• Contribute to strategic planning, assessment, budgeting, and continuous improvement efforts for OSCCS.
• Promote consistent application of policies across student populations, organizations, and academic units.
