Primarypurpose
The primary purpose of this position is:
Machining and Fabricates tooling, parts, assemblies, guarding, jigs/fixtures for production equipment for sustainable solutions. Job task include making new, modifying, repairing manufacturing components. Components made supports all internal groups: engineering, operations, maintenance, quality, and facilities. Takes an active role in component failure investigation, problem solving, creating sustainable solution. Activities will drive towards the plant goals of safety, quality, schedule, and cost.
Thisposition includes significant duties
- Sets up and operates machine tools such as manual machining equipment (lathes, mills), manual surface grinder, heat treat oven, welder, sheet metal shear and brake to machine or fabricate parts. Using hand tools as needed to fit and assemble parts
- Machine, alter and repair components to needed specifications from: blueprints, old/worn/broken parts, models, hand sketch, verbal description. Occasionally advising design improves either geometric or material to achieve the desired benefit.
- Determine machining sequence of operation to complete the job task in a timely manner and meet tolerance requirements with the available equipment and tools. Job task to be completed with minimal supervision.
- Computes dimension measurements using hand calculations, calculator, or programs such as CAD (Draftsight, Solidworks); using plan layouts to determine assembly methods and sequence of operations. Must be able to compute calculations of simple math and geometry/trigonometry formulas.
- Able to machine and fabricate using FDA compliant materials like Stainless Steel, Aluminum and Acetal.
- Utilizing material on hand or request material be ordered for the project, layout the component with standard practices including measures, marks, and scribes materials for machining.
- Verifies dimensions, clearances, and alignment using measuring devices such as dial indicators, gauge blocks, thickness gages, and micrometers to ensure desired precision fit for equipment, assemblies, or components.
- Work with setup and manufacturing engineers or technicians to troubleshoot component root cause failure, outlining a sustainable repair/replacement path and making critical repairs to release the equipment back to operating at a running state.
- Performs predictive/preventative maintenance and assists with updating of predictive and preventative maintenance program.
- Assisting project complete component modifications or custom guarding with new equipment installations to meet equipment validation requirements and timeline.
- Documenting by methods of hand sketches (using standard views) or red lining the prints the “as built” state of the component and provide engineering if modifications were required.
- Documenting, organizing and labeling new tooling, jigs, and fixtures.
