Job Description & How to Apply Below
Position Description Summary
The Production Supervisor leads daily operations for distribution transformer production cells—such as core cutting & stacking, coil winding, active part assembly, tank fabrication, tanking, vacuum dry & oil processing (VD/VPI), paint, and final electrical tests. This role ensures a safe workplace, consistent product quality, and on-time delivery by directing people, coordinating materials and equipment, and driving standard work. The supervisor partners closely with Planning, Quality, Engineering, Maintenance, and Supply Chain to meet build schedules, resolve constraints, and implement continuous improvement across a Lean, data-driven manufacturing environment.
EssentialFunctions
- Safety, Environmental, and Compliance
- Enforce all EHS policies (LOTO, PPE, machine guarding, hoist & rigging, confined space as applicable) and maintain a 5S workplace.
- Conduct daily safety huddles, near‑miss reporting, and lead incident investigations with corrective actions.
- Ensure proper handling, storage, and disposal of dielectric fluids (e.g., mineral oil, natural esters) and paint/solvents per company and regulatory requirements.
- Production Execution & Flow
- Execute the production plan by assigning work, balancing labor across winding, stacking, assembly, tanking, drying, oil fill, and testing to meet takt time and daily output.
- Monitor WIP, resolve bottlenecks (materials, tooling, equipment), and coordinate with Planning on schedule risks.
- Ensure adherence to standard work, drawings, routings, and traveler/route cards; maintain cycle time discipline and minimize changeover losses.
- Quality Assurance
- Ensure all builds conform to engineering drawings, work instructions, control plans, and inspection points from goods in through final test.
- Partner with Quality to manage first pass yield, scrap, and rework; lead root cause analysis (5 Why, Ishikawa) and implement permanent corrective actions.
- Verify test readiness: oil quality, moisture content, core/coil integrity, correct nameplate data, and documentation completeness before final electrical tests (e.g., applied/induced, TTR, resistance, insulation).
- Reinforce traceability and documentation for audits (ISO 9001 or equivalent).
- People Leadership
- Supervise, coach, and develop a multi‑skilled team (operators, welders, winders, assemblers, testers, painters).
- Conduct daily tier meetings (SQDCP), set expectations, and provide feedback; manage attendance and performance.
- Drive cross‑training to increase flexibility across winding ? assembly ? tanking ? test; support certification to critical operations.
- Continuous Improvement & Reliability
- Lead Kaizen events to reduce lead time, WIP, and waste; implement 5S, visual management, and poka yoke.
- Collaborate with Maintenance on TPM activities to improve uptime for key assets (core shear, slitters, winders, vacuum ovens, oil processors, test equipment).
- Use production data (OEE, FPY, schedule adherence, scrap, downtime) to prioritize and verify improvements.
- Materials, Tools & Equipment Coordination
- Partner with Materials/Planning for on‑time availability of core steel, conductor, paper/pressboard, bushings, tap changers, gaskets, tanks, accessories, nameplates, and hardware.
- Verify tooling, fixtures, lifting devices, and calibrated instruments are available and compliant.
- Escalate shortages and engineering changes (ECNs) and support controlled implementation.
- Reporting & Communication
- Track and report daily SQDCP metrics (Safety, Quality, Delivery, Cost, People), including takt attainment, FPY, scrap, and rework.
- Maintain accurate shift logs, nonconformance records, and downtime reasons.
- Communicate issues promptly to Planning, Engineering, Quality, and Maintenance; participate in S&OP/MPS short interval control as needed.
- Demonstrated leadership on a high mix, engineered to order or configure to order shop floor.
- Strong grasp of Lean Manufacturing (5S, standard work, value stream mapping), problem solving, and data‑driven decision making.
- Familiar with ERP/MES (e.g., SYSPRO, SAP, Oracle) for work orders, routings, back flushing, and labor reporting.
- Ability to read engineering drawings,…
