Bindery Operator 3 - Foil Stamper Apprentice

Printing and Bindery Specialist - Compensation: USD 22 – 35 per hour
- Set up, adjust and operate a variety of auxiliary binding machines.
- Inspect equipment for safety issues.
- Operate automatic adhesive binding machines (perfect binders) including vibrating, milling, roughening, gluing, covering and delivering or stacking finished books, magazines or catalogs.
- Make needed adjustments to coordinate multiple work stations on a single machine.
- Direct crew through all aspects of production.
- Monitor quality, output and productivity.
- Maintain thorough knowledge of the setup, adjustment, procedures, capabilities and limitations of equipment for standard and specialized binding, folding, collating, and cutting of printed materials.
- Understand machinability of different paper weights, sizes, kinds and colors to identify paper conditions requiring additional machine adjustment.
- Use a full range of standard and specialized tools and devices to adjust and maintain functional accuracy of bindery machines.
- Execute difficult adjustments to powered machines using hand tools such as wrenches, screwdrivers, punches, knives, and specialized hand tools furnished by the manufacturer.
- Operate complicated bindery equipment such as folders, cutters, collators, stitchers, drills, binding/gluing machines.
- Read and interpret written work indicating the number and sequence of machine operations required to complete work while maintaining dimensional accuracy per instructions.
- Knowledge of the setup, adjustment, procedures, capabilities, and limitations of bindery equipment.
- Ability to assess machinability of paper and perform required adjustments.
- Proficiency with hand tools and specialized bindery equipment.
- Strong understanding of sequencing and quality control.
- Good communication skills for directing crew.
- Engagement in safety oversight.
- Pay range: $22.00 – $35.00 per hour (may vary based on education, skills, experience, proficiency, performance, shift, and location).
