The Joel Fund’s mission is to reconnect veterans to life use the power of community to engage, educate, and encourage veterans and their families.
Reporting to the Operation Connect Program Manager, the Veteran Co-op Site Manager oversees day-to-day operations, scheduling, and participant engagement at the new Durham center. Serving as a crucial link across Durham, Orange, Person, Vance, and Granville counties, this role conducts proactive outreach to connect veterans and their families with essential support services, community programs, and local resources.
This is a non-clinical position focused on relationship-based engagement, program navigation, and community outreach.
Primary Responsibilities- Support participant engagement and follow-up activities connected to Veteran Co-op, Operation ART programming, RECON events, Veterans Coffee Connections, peer gatherings, and other TJF engagement environments
- Conduct outreach activities across the service region through participation in resource fairs, organization partner activities, and public-facing veteran engagement opportunities including settings that may not be veteran-specific but where veterans and military families are likely to be present
- Build relationships with veterans, families, organization partners, and local community providers across the region
- Assist with participant identification, referral coordination, and connection to internal and external support services
- Support front-door engagement, participant communication, intake coordination, and navigation activities within the Veteran Co-op engagement environment
- Support intake coordination, follow-up conversations, screening, and participant engagement activities associated with TJF programming and stabilization services
- Coordinate warm hand-offs and referrals to community partners when appropriate
- Assist with participant identification, referral coordination, and connection to internal and external support services
- Assist with participant documentation, referral tracking, and follow-up coordination
- Support outreach scheduling, participant communication, and coordination activities connected to regional outreach efforts
- Participate in ongoing training related to military cultural competency, trauma-informed engagement, suicide prevention awareness, participant safety procedures, and relationship-based engagement practices
- Perform other duties as assigned
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience in nonprofit services, human services, community engagement, veteran services, public health, or related field
- Experience working with community-based programs, outreach activities, participant engagement, or support services
- Strong communication, relationship-building, and organizational skills
- Ability to work independently across multiple community settings and outreach environments
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and appropriately manage sensitive participant information
- Experience coordinating activities across multiple organizations, events, or community environments
- Valid driver’s license and access to reliable transportation is required
- Work requires walking, standing, sitting, lifting, reaching, stooping, bending, pushing, and pulling. Must be able to lift and support the weight of 50 pounds
- Experience working with veterans or military-connected populations
- Experience with outreach coordination, participant engagement, referrals, or community-based support services
- Familiarity with Veterans Affairs (VA) systems, veteran resources, or community referral networks
- Military service or lived military family experience
- Status:
Full-time, 1-year grant-funded position (extension beyond Year 1 is contingent upon securing additional funding). - Salary: $45,000-$50,000 annually, plus a dedicated benefits allowance.
- Hours:
Monday through Friday, 9:00 AM-5:00 PM, with occasional evening, weekend, or holiday hours required for events and community outreach.
