About Duke University Hospital

Plan and provide advanced and/or specialized nursing care for patients in accordance with guidelines established within the Discipline of Nursing Clinical Ladder Program and the North Carolina Board of Nursing.

This CNIV Leader will take care of two units:

The Clinical Transport Team (CTT)

At Duke is an intra-hospital transport team of nurses who strive to deliver exceptional care to ensure an excellent patient experience. The primary responsibilities of the Inpatient Nurse Transport Team are to provide 1:1 nursing care during non-ICU transports to diagnostic or interventional tests and continuing the plan of care while the patient is in the procedure including assessment, cardiac monitoring, medication administration, and any other needs the patient might have during transport.

Our service allows the primary nurse to remain on their unit to care for their assignment.

The Emergency Department Clinical Evaluation Unit (CEU)

Is a 24-bed acute care unit which provides care to patients across multiple service lines and levels of care, excluding pediatrics and ICU, with our collective goal being to decompress the emergency department. This care team, consisting of RNs and ED Techs, will care for a population of emergency department observation patients, with a stay of 24 hours-or-less, by following a variety of standard protocols in collaboration with an ED provider.

Additionally, this unit cares for admit holds awaiting bed placement on inpatient units.

Work Hours & Shifts
  • Full-Time - 40 hours per week
  • Nights - 7p-7a
  • Call requirement for back-up on day shift
  • Some Dayshift coverage for meetings

The position will provide local level leadership in the areas of administration, education, informatics and quality.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Identify care needs for patient populations across the continuum of care.
  • Collaborate and provide leadership in the development of standards of care, patient/family education and staff education to address the needs of specific populations.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary team and provide leadership within the delivery of patient care.
  • Provide leadership in educational activities, departmental committees, research projects and other health-related projects.
  • Provide evaluation, direction and guidance in the proper selection, use, care and control of material resources.
  • Appraise quality and effectiveness of material and equipment and collaborate with appropriate departments to assist with vendor selection and feedback on performance.
  • Guide the professional growth of others across the continuum of care through role modeling, coaching and/or mentoring.
  • This may include designing orientation modules, primary precepting of senior nursing students.
  • Provide leadership at a departmental, entity, community or regional/national level for initiatives focused on improving the quality of care for populations of patients and growth of others.
  • Conduct performance reviews.
  • Effectively recommend personnel actions including, but not limited to, hiring, performance appraisals, disciplinary actions, terminations and other related activities.
  • Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.
CNIV Pathways

Leadership/Regulatory:
Monitor clinical practice and ensure compliance to practice standards and regulatory standards. Collaborate with unit/clinic leadership to coach and mentor nursing colleagues. Influence recruitment and development of staff.

Education:
