Position: Registered Nurse (RN) Radiation Oncology 1.0FTE

Position Overview

Registered Nurse – Radiation Oncology Clinic at Duke Cancer Center (North Durham).

Shift Information

Full‑time, 40 hours per week. Clinic

Hours:

Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m.–4:30 p.m.

Responsibilities
  • Independently plan and provide professional nursing care for patients in accordance with physician orders and established policies and procedures.
  • Apply the nursing process to assess patients, develop individualized plans of care, and document all interventions.
  • Delegate tasks and supervise licensed and unlicensed care providers.
  • Act as team leader or charge nurse for a group of patients or an entire unit as assigned.
  • Monitor and initiate corrective actions to maintain the environment of care, including equipment and material resources.
  • Engage in ongoing professional development and maintain required competencies.
  • Serve as preceptor and mentor other staff and formal learners.
  • Participate in clinical or operational performance‑improvement activities.
  • Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Knowledge of RN scope of practice and the nursing process.
  • Ability to assess and manage the needs of acute and chronically ill patients and their families.
  • Strong communication skills with patients, families, and the healthcare team.
  • Competency in documenting and communicating pertinent information using electronic and paper records.
  • Proficiency in BLS and other specialized life‑support requirements.
  • Understanding of infection‑control procedures and safety precautions.
  • Ability to operate within regulatory and accreditation requirements (e.g., TJC).
Minimum Qualifications
  • Graduation from an accredited BSN program (or exception for specific dates as noted).
  • Twelve months of appropriate clinical experience.
  • Current or compact RN licensure in North Carolina; BLS required.
