Duke University Health System is seeking an Advanced Practice Provider for the Duke Department of Radiology Neuroradiology at Duke University Hospital in Durham, NC. The provider will work with physicians and other advanced practice providers to deliver patient care through image-guided procedures, triage, telehealth, and clinic visits.
Job LocationDuke University Hospital – Duke Medical Pavilion – 10 Medicine Circle, Durham, NC.
Job HoursPrimary hours Monday – Friday, 8 AM to 5 PM with flexibility for extended morning or evening shifts as required.
Job Duties and Responsibilities- After supervised training, perform image‑guided diagnostic and therapeutic procedures (e.g., lumbar punctures, myelograms). Record procedural data for the supervising physician.
- Triage patient phone calls, take histories, perform physical examinations, and record findings. Document procedures, progress notes, and discharge summaries using approved templates.
- Provide telehealth and face‑to‑face clinic visits for the Neuroradiology CT Spine Intervention service and manage ongoing patient care.
- Collaborate with the supervising physician to determine treatment plans and surgical needs. Complete scheduling paperwork and submit documentation or pre‑authorization requests.
- Order and schedule laboratory studies and diagnostic procedures; explain the purpose, preparation, and anticipated effects to patients.
- Integrate education, research, leadership, and consultation into clinical practice. Participate in nursing and resident education, division research projects, committee membership, and continuity of care.
- Participate in basic science and clinical research projects conducted by the supervising physician.
- Assign work to nursing and technical personnel, review staff performance, and train new personnel as needed.
- Teach medical students and advanced practice provider students techniques and procedures unique to the clinical setting.
- Perform related duties incidental to the work described herein.
- Nurse Practitioners:
Accredited NP program and Master’s degree in Nursing. - Physician Assistants:
Accredited PA program. Bachelor’s degree required;
Master’s strongly preferred.
- BLS required.
- Nurse Practitioners:
Current or compact RN license in North Carolina. National NP certification required. - Physician Assistants:
Licensed in NC and certified PA by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants. - DEA license required.
- Prefer 1+ year as an NP or PA in orthopedics, spine, or related services, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Proven focus on patient‑centered care and collaboration with team members at all levels.
