The 7100 Cardiology Stepdown Unit at Duke University Hospital is comprised of 31 beds. It provides care for cardiology medicine patients with acute coronary syndrome, post cardiac catheterization, electrophysiology procedures, dysrhythmias, heart failure, heart transplant workups and congenital heart disease. Patients often come directly from the ICU or outside hospitals requiring increased level of care. The environment is fast‑paced, challenging, and offers opportunities for professional growth.
Full Time: 7am-7pm / 7pm-7am 12‑hour days and nights rotating shifts.
Straight shift option available after orientation for experienced nurses based on unit availability.
As a Clinical Nurse with Duke University Health System, you will provide services with a patient‑centered focus. You will be responsible for direct and indirect total nursing care using the nursing process. You will plan and provide advanced and/or specialized care, participate in the clinical ladder program, educational activities, departmental committees, research projects, and other health‑related projects.
Duties and
Responsibilities include:
- Plan, provide and document professional nursing care, following physician orders and established policies and procedures under the supervision of the team leader or charge nurse.
- Delegate tasks and supervise licensed and unlicensed care providers.
- Assist other healthcare personnel in patient care delivery.
- Maintain the environment of care, including equipment and resources.
- Prioritize work organization and identify resources to complete care timely.
- Engage in professional development by maintaining competencies and seeking educational opportunities.
- Support development of other staff and formal learners.
- Identify clinical or operational performance improvement opportunities and assist in related activities.
- Perform other related duties incidental to the work described here.
Knowledge, Skills, Education, and Experience
Required:
- Previous work experience (1+ years) as a clinical nurse is required for CNII’s.
- Graduation from an accredited Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (or higher), Associate’s Degree in Nursing or Nursing Diploma program is required.
- All registered nurses without a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (or higher) are required to enroll in an appropriate BSN program within two years of their start date and to complete the program within seven years of their start date.
Licensure, Certification or Registration
Required:
- Current registration with North Carolina State Board of Nursing as a registered professional nurse or current compact RN licensure to practice in the state of North Carolina.
- Professional specialty certification (preferred).
