- Duke Hospital seeks to hire a Registered Nurse (Triage) who will embrace our mission of Advancing Health Together.
The Pulmonary Triage Center in Clinic 2F2G at Duke University Hospital is seeking a qualified nurse. Our team is active in delivering exemplary care for each patient to ensure an excellent patient experience, every time. Ideal applicants would have excellent computer and phone skills and be able to communicate effectively with a multidisciplinary team.
This position will provide triage support for interstitial lung disease, a high acuity patient population, in collaboration with multidisciplinary teams. We are looking for someone with the ability to establish a strong rapport with patients and families by phone, to coordinate services, and to provide education and nursing care to patients and families in the clinic setting.

Schedule:
Monday-Friday - 8 hrs. shifts
The ideal candidate for this position will possess the following:
- A solid background with pulmonary patients
- Experience with telephone triage
- Strong oral and written communication skills, as well as software navigation abilities (EPIC experience preferred)
- Good organizational skills
- Flexible attitude with the ability to function both independently and as a team member, assisting patients in their home care coordination and in the clinic setting
This position requires indirect patient support tasks and some limited direct clinic time, which may include the following:
- Telephone triage
- Patient/family education
- Completing clinical paperwork including medical releases, emergency and travel letters, etc.
- Prescription refills
- Prior Authorizations
- Review and complete the in-basket process
Duties and Responsibilities of this Level:
- Plan, provide, supervise and document professional nursing care utilizing the nursing process for patients in accordance with physician orders and established policies and procedures.
- Use professional nursing judgment to individualize the plan of care based on assessment of the patient's baseline needs and response to care.
- Monitor and initiate corrective action to maintain the environment of care including equipment and material resources.
- Participate in own professional development by maintaining required competencies, identifying learning needs and seeking appropriate assistance or educational offerings.
- Act as preceptor and support the development of other staff and formal learners.
- Participate in the identification of clinical or operational performance improvement opportunities and in performance improvement activities.
- Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.
Experience:
Twelve months of appropriate clinical experience is required.
