Labor & Delivery Unit

The Labor & Delivery Unit at Duke Regional Hospital is a 17‑bed unit that delivers an average of 200 patients each month.

  • Level 2 facility delivering patients 32 weeks gestation and up.
  • 24/7 in‑house OB, neonatal, and anesthesia provider coverage.
  • Focus on serving our community and partnering with families to create a safe and respectful birth environment.
  • High‑tech maternity care provided in a unit with lots of tenue and a close‑knit family environment.
  • Ideal candidates will function as part of a large multidisciplinary team in a shared governance environment, and have a passion for family‑centered care.
  • Preferred applicants with labor & delivery, critical care, or acute care experience.
Night Shift - 7p – 7a with Call

Job Summary

As a Clinical Nurse with Duke University Health System, you will prioritize providing service while caring for the whole person in a patient‑centered atmosphere. The RN is responsible for providing and supervising direct and indirect total nursing care based on the nursing process (assessing, planning, implementing, evaluating). You will plan and provide advanced and/or specialized nursing care guided by the DUHS Professional Practice model, participate in the clinical ladder program, educational activities, departmental committees, research projects, or other health‑related projects as assigned, and provide nursing services to patients and families in accordance with the scope of RN as defined by the North Carolina Board of Nursing.

You will adhere to rules and regulations of local, state, and federal agencies and accrediting bodies, and actively participate in outstanding customer service, maintaining respectful relationships with patients, families, and colleagues.

Knowledge, Skills, Education, and Experience Preferred
  • Graduation from an accredited Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (or higher), Associate’s Degree in Nursing, or Nursing Diploma program is required.
  • Minimum 1 year of nursing experience required. One year of related experience preferred.
Minimum Qualifications for Experienced RN’s

Education

Work requires graduation from an accredited BSN program. Exceptions:
Registered nurses hired between July 1, 2014 and April 11, 2021 without a bachelor's degree are encouraged to enroll in a BSN program within two years of their start date and must complete it within five years. Registered nurses hired before July 1, 2014 are not required to enroll in a BSN program to remain in this job classification.

Work requires graduation from an accredited Associate’s Degree in Nursing or Nursing Diploma program.

All registered nurses without a bachelor's degree are encouraged to enroll in a BSN program within two years of their start date and must complete it within seven years.

Experience

Twelve months of appropriate clinical experience is required. At a manager's discretion, employees with six months of experience who are exceptional performers may be eligible for this level.

Degrees, Licensures, Certifications

Must have current or compact RN licensure in the state of North Carolina. BLS required.
