The HEEAT Lab (addressing Health disparities through Engagement, Equity, Advocacy, and Trust) is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Clinical Research Coordinator (CRC) to co-lead clinical research operations for community-engaged studies focused on advancing health equity.

In this role, you will play a central leadership part in a large-scale randomized controlled trial (RCT),
UPDOs (Using PrEP Doing It for Ourselves), partnering with beauty salons to promote HIV prevention among Black women across six counties in North Carolina (Durham, Wake, Cumberland, Forsyth, Mecklenburg, and Guilford).

You will work in a hybrid environment
, spending three (3) days per week in the community and two (2) days completing administrative work, documentation, and meetings. This position requires regular travel to salon sites and participant locations.

This is a one-year term position with the potential for extension based on funding.

You will report to the Assistant Research Practice Manager for the Duke School of Nursing, with a dotted line to the Principal Investigator.

  • Bachelor’s degree OR Associate’s degree plus a minimum of two years of relevant experience (e.g., research, clinical, interaction with study population, program coordination)
  • Experience with IRB and human subjects research
  • Strong community engagement experience
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Excellent time management, organization, and follow-through
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and community engagement skills
  • Proficiency with computer software and web-based applications (e.g., Microsoft Office)

Preferred Qualifications

  • 3–5 years of research coordination experience preferred
  • Experience with randomized controlled trials (RCTs)
  • Experience in grant management
  • HIV/PrEP research experience
  • Experience working with diverse populations, particularly Black cisgender women

Other Requirements

  • Ability to travel regularly across six North Carolina counties (Durham, Wake, Cumberland, Forsyth, Mecklenburg, Guilford)
  • Ability to perform extended periods of data entry and maintain accurate records
  • This position is hybrid
