Job Summary
The Hematologic Malignancy and Cellular Therapy (HMCT) Advanced Practice Provider works in collaboration with attending physicians, collects and documents data, obtains/orders diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, laboratory studies and professional consultations to provide direct patient care services for HMCT inpatient services. This position will split time between our two services 50/50.
Job Duties & Responsibilities
- Promote and maintain high standards of patient care throughout the continuum of cancer diagnosis.
- Elicit detailed and accurate patient histories and perform through physical examinations.
- Order appropriate diagnostic imaging and tests to determine medical and post treatment diagnoses, patient conditions, treatment toxicities.
- Formulate appropriate treatment plans with critical thinking skills and high-level clinical judgement including prescribing appropriate medications.
- Chart patient progress maintaining detailed and accurate health records
- Participate in clinical research projects and understand the importance of documentation of toxicities and data collection.
- Communication among multi-disciplinary teams to support patient care.
- Collaborating, supporting and building strong relationships with supervising, back-up supervising physicians, APP colleagues, and team members.
- Participate in education of patients, family members, new staff, students and other learners.
- Perform procedures including:
- Bone Marrow Biopsies
- Lumbar Puncture with and without intrathecal chemotherapy
- Ommaya Access with and without intrathecal chemotherapy
- Punch skin biopsy with simple suture.
- See scheduled and unscheduled patients.
- Attend program required meetings.
- Maintain up to date clinical and professional knowledge via approved CME.
- Protect patient confidentiality, maintain ethics and abide by North Carolina laws and Duke Health System policies.
- Maintain institutional requirements for compliance.
Job Eligibility Requirements
Education
NP:
Graduate of accredited MSN or DNP Nurse Practitioner Program for adult carePA:
Graduate of ARC accredited Master’s Degree or Doctoral Degree Physician Assistant ProgramCertification
NP:
Any NP certification that treats adults (FNP, ANP, AGNP, AGPCNP, AGACNP, etc.)PA: PA-C
Both: BLS
ACLS preferred
L icensure
NP:
Must have unrestricted RN licensure issued by or recognized by the NCBON with authorization to practice as a NPPA:
Must have unrestricted medical license issued by NCMB with authorization to practice as PABoth:
Federal and State DEA independent license with unrestricted prescriptive authorityExperience
APP experience is preferred, ideally in Hematology/Oncology, but recent or new grads graduating by December 2025 are welcome to apply.
