What you can expect

The Children’s Procedural Sedation Unit (CPSU) is a 7 room sedation suite hospital-based clinic that is an extension of Duke Health hospitals. Our team provides sedation services for children, inpatient and outpatient, from all specialties.

Schedule:

  • Full Time:
    Monday – Friday, 7:00 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. (flexible day shift hours), 40 hours per week.

How you will make an impact
  • Plan, provide, supervise and document professional nursing care using the nursing process in accordance with physician orders and established policies and procedures.
  • Coordinate sedation services in the CPSU for patients requiring complex care, assessment and evaluation.
  • Lead and support nursing staff, serving as team leader or charge nurse as assigned.
  • Monitor and maintain the environment of care, including equipment and material resources.
  • Participate in professional development, competency maintenance, and staff education/preceptorship.
  • Identify and participate in clinical and operational performance improvement activities.
  • Schedule patients for procedures requiring CPSU services, sedation, or general anesthesia.
  • Communicate with patients, families, CPSU staff, and multidisciplinary teams regarding procedures, instructions, and scheduling coordination.
What you will need
  • Graduation from an accredited Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (or higher), Associate’s Degree in Nursing, or Nursing Diploma program.
  • All registered nurses without a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (or higher) must enroll in an appropriate BSN program within two years of their start date and complete the program within five years of their start date.
  • Current registration with the North Carolina State Board of Nursing as a registered professional nurse OR current compact RN licensure to practice in North Carolina.
  • BLS Certification required.
  • PALS preferred.
  • 2 years nursing experience preferred.
  • Moderate and/or general sedation experience with pediatric patients preferred.
  • Radiologic experience preferred.
  • Ability to multitask while managing assessments, care plans, interventions, evaluations, and patient education.
  • Strong collaboration and relationship management skills with patients, families, visitors, physicians, leadership, and multidisciplinary care teams.
