The
Behavioral Health (BH)
Clinical Nurse Leader (CN IV-L)is a hybrid clinical and leadership role that combines direct patient care with
unit‑based leadership, coaching, and operational support
. This position serves as an early leadership pathway for nurses interested in advancing into formal nurse management roles while remaining clinically grounded.
The CN IV Leader supports the Nurse Manager (NM) and Health Center Administrator (HCA) by coordinating care delivery, mentoring staff, advancing quality initiatives, and promoting evidence‑based practice.
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES The BH CNIV-L will provide leadership and staffing support for the following clinical programs:- Adult Behavioral Health Clinics
- Duke Behavioral Health North Durham
- Duke Behavioral Health North Pavillion
- Embedded Providers (remote support) for Onco-Psych, Transplant Psych services
- Identify care needs for patient populations across the continuum of care.
- Collaborate and provide leadership in the development of standards of care, patient/family education and staff education to address the needs of specific populations.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary team and provide leadership within the delivery of patient care.
- Provide leadership in educational activities, departmental committees, research projects and other health-related projects.
- Provide evaluation, direction and guidance in the proper selection, use, care and control of material resources.
- Appraise quality and effectiveness of material and equipment and collaborate with appropriate departments to assist with vendor selection and feedback on performance.
- Guide the professional growth of others across the continuum of care through role modeling, coaching and/or mentoring.
- This may include designing orientation modules, primary precepting of senior nursing students.
- Provide leadership at a departmental, entity, community or regional/national level for initiatives focused on improving the quality of care for populations of patients and growth of others.
- Conduct performance reviews.
- Effectively recommend personnel actions including, but not limited to, hiring, performance appraisals, disciplinary actions, terminations and other related activities.
- Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.
- Work requires graduation from an accredited nursing program with a BSN degree.
- Three years of experience required.
- Clinical Nurse II and III are eligible to apply for the CN IV Leader role. Applicants will perform the duties and responsibilities of the CN IV.
- Ambulatory experience required
- Experience with process and performance improvement required
- Must have current or compact RN licensure in the state of North Carolina. BLS required.
Monday-Friday day shift with no evenings, weekends, holidays or on call
- Approximately 3 clinical staffing shifts (32 hours) and 16 hours of dedicated leadership/administrative
