The NEURO ICU 7 DCT at Duke University Hospital is comprised of a 35-bed state of art attached to the Level 1 Trauma Center. Our Duke Neuro ICU achieved Stroke Gold Plus and Honor Roll Elite Plus recognition from the American Heart Association and American Stroke Association for "Get with the Guidelines-Stroke" and "Target:

Nursing Assistant I (NA I) – Position Summary

The Nursing Assistant I (NA I) works in partnership with Registered Nurses (RNs) and Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) to provide direct patient care and support unit operations. This role assists with activities of daily living, patient monitoring, specimen collection, vital signs, patient transport, admissions and discharges, and maintaining a safe, clean patient care environment. The NA I is expected to deliver compassionate care while respecting patient dignity, privacy, and cultural differences.

• Provide direct patient care, including bathing, feeding, grooming, dressing, toileting, ambulation, and positioning.
• Obtain and document vital signs, intake and output, blood glucose results (with appropriate training), and other patient information.
• Observe and report changes in patient condition to the RN/LPN.
• Assist nurses and providers during exams and procedures.
• Support patient admissions, discharges, and transportation.
• Collect and transport specimens and perform routine specimen testing as assigned.
• Maintain equipment, stock supplies, and ensure unit cleanliness.
• Reinforce patient education provided by nurses and providers.
• Participate in ongoing training, competency validation, and professional development.

• Must be listed as a Nursing Assistant I (NA I) with the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services with no substantiated findings of abuse, neglect, fraud, or misappropriation of property.
• Must obtain and maintain Basic Life Support (BLS) certification by the end of new hire orientation.

• No specific education or prior experience required.
