The City of Sanford is seeking a Lead Groundskeeper to perform skilled trades work supervising and participating in mowing, seeding, planting, pruning, trimming, spraying and fertilizing grass, trees, shrubs, bushes, hedges and flowers, operating, maintaining and repairing equipment; and processing and completing work orders. Work is performed under the moderate supervision of the Grounds Supervisor. Limited supervision is exercised over Groundskeeper I and II, and assigned inmates.

The ideal candidate will:

Oversee and participate in grounds maintenance and beautification tasks; assign tasks; schedule work; train personnel; oversee inmates; maintain records and files; prepare reports.

Oversee and participate in mowing, planting, pruning, seeding, spraying, fertilizing and related activities pertaining to the cleaning and maintenance of rights-of-way and other public grounds.

Oversee the propagation, planting, irrigation, spraying and fertilization of flowers, plants, trees, shrubs and hedges.

Design new landscape areas and reconstruct existing landscape areas.

Oversee pruning of trees and shrubs and mulching of planting areas.

Coordinate and schedule litter removal.

Operate trucks, tractors, mowers and related equipment, and use hand tools in performance of tasks.

Plan, schedule and participate in the maintenance and repair of equipment.

Ensure safety policies and procedures are adhered to.

Coordinate and participate in snow removal and ice control.

Coordinate and participate in special event set-up activities as needed.

Coordinate flag set up and tear down on Federal holidays.

Work on-call and occasional overtime to execute tasks related to special events, extreme weather, and as needed.

Carry out additional tasks and responsibilities to support the Grounds Department as assigned.
