Laboratory Technician (Open) – R

Location:

Durham, NC (ASG) – Industrial spec gas

About the Role

This position is a key contributor to the analysis and certification of specialty gases, in alignment with established specifications. Performs analysis for specialty gases and finished product testing; assists scheduling of all products to be analyzed, proper storage, labeling and shipping. Performs analyses of gases using analytical instrumentation.

Responsibilities
  • Performs routine production testing and quality control analysis of specialty gas mixtures and pure gases.
  • Monitors quality alignment with standard operating procedure manual requirements.
  • Reviews production records and releases products for distribution. Prepares gas analysis certification reports for customer distribution.
  • Coordinates with supervisor concerning delivery schedules, product complaints and special product requests.
  • Supports management team with health and safety and ISO quality programs maintenance.
  • Monitors lead times and collaborates to prioritize workloads.
  • Collaborates in the qualification and maintenance of laboratory standards including proper inventory, labeling, documentation, storage, presentation. Sets up and maintains laboratory instruments and keeps maintenance records per SOPs.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Associate’s degree in Chemistry or related field required or 1‑3 years of relevant experience in an industrial environment.
  • Knowledge and understanding of analytical chemistry, instrumental analysis, spectroscopy, and statistical methods.
  • Ability to read and comprehend Safety Data Sheets (SDS).
  • Ability to coordinate efforts with multiple departments.
  • Aptitude for high precision work.
  • Ability to perform the essential functions of the Laboratory Technician.
  • Teamwork skills to meet laboratory goals.
  • Forklift operation and maintenance certification.
  • Ability to follow directions, make decisions, be reliable.
  • Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) or equivalent.
  • Ability to read, analyze, interpret complex instructions such as safety rules and maintenance manuals. Ability to present information to co‑workers and customers.
  • Ability to solve practical problems in limited standardization contexts.
  • Mathematical skills: addition, subtraction, multiplication, division in all units of measure including common fractions and decimals.
  • Ability to compute rates, ratios, percentages.
  • Will work all shifts; subject to weather conditions.
Physical Abilities

Requires standing, use of hands and arms, speaking/hearing. Must lift or move up to 50 pounds. Requires close, distance, and color vision with ability to focus.
