Policy Analyst – Nature Activation Hub & Climate Resilience, The Nicholas Institute

As a Policy Analyst at the Nicholas Institute for Energy, Environment & Sustainability, you will join a multidisciplinary team to advance nature‑based solutions and climate resilience initiatives. Your work will support Duke’s Climate Commitment and engage with federal and state agencies, land trusts, conservation organizations, and industry partners.

What You’ll Do
  • Conduct research and analysis, including literature reviews, GIS and statistical analysis, and draft policy briefs, white papers and peer‑reviewed publications on nature‑based solutions and climate resilience topics.
  • Manage projects, track progress toward milestones, report to funders, manage budgets and mentor student assistants; collaborate with senior researchers and faculty to strengthen team relationships and workflow improvements.
  • Coordinate public and expert convenings such as workshops, round tables and stakeholder meetings; prepare topic‑focused research and materials for stakeholder review and manage logistics and communication strategies.
  • Serve as liaison for project participants, faculty and external partners and coordinate activities with industry representatives and policy professionals to advance project deliverables.
We’re Looking For Candidates With
  • A bachelor’s degree in a related field (master’s preferred).
  • Two or more years of experience in policy, research, or data analysis (three‑to‑four years preferred).
  • Systematic literature review skills, data interpretation and social‑science or economic analysis.
  • Experience with ArcGIS Pro and familiarity with hydrologic or ecological models.
  • Strong communication, organizational and interpersonal skills.
