Research Scientist, Data Scientist

We are seeking a Bioinformatics Scientist to support the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIH/NIEHS).
This position requires on-site work on the NIEHS campus in Research Triangle Park, NC with eligibility for telework if/when authorized.
This is a long-term contract position which offers:

(1) Carry out Next Generation Sequencing data analyses across concurrent projects including mapping, SNP and structural variation discovery and validation, statistical analyses, meta-analyses of genomic features, pathways analyses, and principal components analyses.
(2) Apply in-depth knowledge of computational methods in the analyses of large epidemiology and population genomics datasets including Genome Wide Association Studies (GWAS) and massively parallel Next Generation Sequencing.
(3) Conduct analyses of GWAS data quality including analyses of multiple experimental designs simultaneously.
(4) Carry out GWAS data and meta-data analyses including imputation analyses, stratification analyses, haplotype analyses, significant SNP and structural variation discovery and others.
(5) Conduct statistical analyses to extract biologically meaningful information including meta-data from genomic and targeted element population studies.
(6) Utilize commercial software and freeware as well as write custom algorithms programs to accomplish scientific tasks and support biological discovery.
(7) Validate and conduct quality analysis for all types Next Generation sequencing data in the context of understanding complex disease and complex population structures.
(8) Work with biologists to design models summarizing, explaining, and interpreting experimental data.
(9) Provide correlation analyses of data derived from different experimental platforms such as correlation of whole exome re-sequencing and GWAS data.
(10) Participate in group meetings with population genomics biologists, present findings to individuals and groups and advise on coordination of analyses and discovery methods.
(11) Support high performance computer environmental resources, maintain work stations and identify and operate commercial software and freeware relevant to analyses.
REQUIREMENTS(1) Ph.D. in Bioinformatics, Biostatistics, Computational Biology, or related biological/life science discipline.
(2) Minimum of 6 years of experience that includes next gen sequencing data analysis, pipeline development, genome-wide association studies, bulk RNA‑sequencing, and/or multi‑omics analysis.
(3) Experience working with large data sets and using R, Python, MATLAB, Linux, Shell scripting, and/or Java.
(4) Ability to work on-site at NIH/NIEHS in Research Triangle Park, NC.
