Position Summary

The Kenan Institute of Private Enterprise is hiring a Research Analyst to provide research support on academic and translational research projects in collaboration with Kenan‑Flagler faculty, the institute’s Chief Economist, and staff. The analyst will work on institute‑led data projects, including the North Carolina Economic Forecasting Initiative and American Growth Project.

Responsibilities
  • Perform statistical analysis and econometric modeling to understand economic trends and evaluate policy outcomes using statistical software such as Stata, SAS, R, and Python.
  • Clean, organize, and analyze data, and conduct literature reviews on a broad set of economic and business topics to support research papers, white papers, and reports.
  • Collaborate with fellow research analysts, economists, and institutional stakeholders to scale up the American Growth Project’s regional economic indicators, contributing to research design and interdisciplinary approaches.
  • Communicate research findings to diverse audiences through written and verbal communication, including writing white papers, policy briefs, and translational research materials.
  • Manage project components, communicate progress to team members, and meet deadlines in a highly collaborative environment.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
  • Relevant post‑baccalaureate degree required (or foreign degree equivalent); candidates with a bachelor’s degree and at least three years of relevant experience may be considered.
  • Must be a United States citizen or lawful permanent resident; all applicants must verify identity and eligibility to work in the United States upon hire.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in economics, business, public policy, public administration, city and regional planning, statistics, mathematics, or a related field.
  • Familiarity with statistical software such as STATA, SPSS, SAS, etc.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree or two years of relevant work experience.
  • Familiarity with database structures and querying.
  • Strong writing and communication skills.
  • Experience with data visualization packages such as Tableau and spreadsheet/presentation software.
  • Experience with project management software such as Jira or
