The Julius L. Chambers Biomedical/Biotechnology Research Institute (BBRI) is a 40,000 sq. ft. state‑of‑the‑art research facility dedicated to expanding the University’s research capacity, particularly in the biomedical and biotechnology areas. The BBRI is a broad‑based, multi‑disciplinary research and training institute. Its mission is to conduct multidisciplinary and inter‑institutional research focused on health issues that disproportionately affect minority and underserved groups, while providing students with research experiences that enhance their access to careers in the biomedical sciences.
PrimaryPurpose of Position
NCCU invites applications for a Research Scientist to help build and expand RCMI‑supported core resources and programming in developmental and environmental toxicology. This effort will build translational science capacity and is aligned with strategic efforts to build capacity in environmental sciences such as NCCU‑RTI CARES, the NCCU–NC State partnership in environmental health, and the Duke‑NCCU Clinical and Translational Science Award (CTSA).
Aligned with NIH priorities, this scientist will apply New Approach Methodologies (NAMs) and model‑organism systems, including zebrafish and killifish embryos, to study the molecular and developmental effects of environmental contaminants such as PFAS and other industrial and environmental toxins. The position will contribute to NCCU’s expanding research capacity in translational science with a focus on environmental science, under the broader RCMI umbrella and its associated programs.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Experience working with PFAS using advanced methods such as single‑cell biology and next‑generation sequencing
- Demonstrated expertise in developmental biology and model‑organism research
- Proficiency in molecular, genomic, and imaging techniques
- Strong record of scholarly productivity and teamwork
- Experience with zebrafish/killifish embryology, NAMs, and exposure biology
- Interest in community‑based and translational environmental health and education
- Ph.D. in Developmental Biology, Toxicology, Environmental Science, or a related field
