Position SummaryConduct independent research activities under the guidance of a faculty mentor in preparation for a full‑time academic or research career.
Eligibility Requirements- Ph.D. or equivalent doctorate in Engineering, Physics, Applied Mathematics, Computer Science, or a related field.
- Candidates with non‑US degrees may need to provide proof of degree equivalency.
- International candidates may need to have the degree conferred before immigration proceedings.
- Appointment term is limited per Duke Postdoctoral Policy.
- Postdoctoral Appointee expected to publish results during the appointment.
- Perform full‑time research or scholarship, may include teaching responsibilities.
- Maintain laboratory notebooks and research records.
- Follow standards of responsible conduct in research.
- Adhere to university standards regarding chemicals and safety.
- Collaborate and communicate with mentor and multidisciplinary team.
- Consult AAMC Compact and other university policies as appropriate.

- Laser‑based instrumentation design, fiber coupling, and optical characterization.
- Experimental investigation and computational model simulation of laser‑induced bubble dynamics and material damage assessment.
- Develop AI and machine learning models for robot‑assisted laser surgery and validate against experimental observations.
- Support education activities of the PI through graduate student mentoring, lectures, and teaching assistance.
- Ph.D. in Engineering, Physics, Applied Mathematics, Computer Science, or related area.
- 0+ years of postgraduate research experience.
- Excellent independent research skills and ability to collaborate within a multidisciplinary team.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and formal writing skills.
