We are seeking a motivated and detail‑oriented Plant Sciences Research Technician to support plant and seed production activities for commercial crops, including soybean and maize. This hands‑on position is ideal for candidates who enjoy working in greenhouse and controlled‑environment research settings and are passionate about advancing agricultural science.

The successful candidate will assist with daily plant care, research operations, data collection, and greenhouse activities while working closely with a collaborative research team to support experimental studies.

Location: Durham, NC

Employment Type: Minimum 6-month+ temp/contract role

Schedule: Monday-Friday 8:00am-5:00pm

Pay Rate: $21.09/hr

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform daily plant care activities, including watering, fertilizing, scouting, pruning, and general greenhouse maintenance.
  • Conduct planting, transplanting, pollination, sampling, harvesting, and seed production activities.
  • Monitor plant health, growth, and development while documenting observations and experimental data.
  • Maintain accurate records and support data collection in accordance with research protocols.
  • Assist with greenhouse and growth chamber environmental monitoring, including temperature, humidity, lighting, and irrigation systems.
  • Support experimental setup, execution, and completion while following established procedures and timelines.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, regulatory requirements, and Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) standards.
  • Collaborate with scientists and research staff to support breeding and agricultural research programs.
  • Provide occasional weekend and holiday coverage to maintain critical plant care operations.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Agronomy, Horticulture, Plant Science, Biology, Agriculture, or a related scientific field;
    or Associate degree with at least two years of relevant greenhouse, laboratory, or agricultural research experience.
  • Ability to perform physically demanding work, including standing, walking, lifting, bending, and repetitive tasks in greenhouse environments.
  • Strong organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently while following written protocols and standard operating procedures.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint).
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous greenhouse or growth chamber experience.
  • Knowledge of plant biology, crop production, or agricultural research.
  • Experience with environmental control systems used in greenhouse operations.
  • Familiarity with research documentation, data collection, and regulated work environments.
