Senior Genetics Researcher/Principal Investigator
The Genomics, Ethics, and Translational Research Program within RTI International conducts translational genetics and genomics research with a focus on rare diseases in newborns and young children. Our long-standing statewide newborn screening study, Early Check, will begin implementing genomic sequencing this year. We are seeking a Senior Genetics Researcher/Principal Investigator who can provide leadership and support to Early Check, and strategic planning to grow our portfolio of work related to all aspects of translational genomics.
The ideal candidate will have an M.D. or M.D./Ph.D. in genetics, neurology, pediatrics, psychiatry, or other related fields; expertise in genetics, genomic sequencing, and/or newborn screening; scientific leadership and/or organizational management experience with large, multidisciplinary teams; involvement in national or international initiatives; and a strong track record of funding and publications. The candidate can maintain an academic appointment and continue clinical practice, if desired.
Transfer of currently funded projects will be given full consideration.
RTI International headquarters is located in Research Triangle Park, NC, a short distance from UNC Chapel Hill and Duke University. RTI also has regional offices across the United States. Scientists in the Genomics, Ethics, and Translational Research Program range from early-career to established investigators who implement pilot and full-scale research studies, evaluate programs, and provide technical assistance to support evidence-based strategies that inform policy and healthcare practice.
The Program has a multidisciplinary approach and includes staff from a variety of backgrounds, including public health, genetic counseling, psychology, special education, social work, and chemistry. The Program resides within a larger business unit with experts in informatics, biostatistics, data science, and discovery genomics. We maintain an on-site, CLIA-certified lab. In addition, we partner with clinical genetics experts from local universities on many of our studies.
