About the RoleSyngenta's Bioinformatics team is hiring a Functional Genomics Intern in Durham, NC to analyze next-generation genomics datasets and apply AI/deep learning prediction tools to solve biological problems. The role focuses on developing computational genomics skills, building reproducible workflows, and contributing analyses, visualizations, and reports within a multidisciplinary team.
Job Description RoleFunctional Genomics Intern on Syngenta’s Bioinformatics team based in Durham, NC. The intern will analyze next-generation genomics and omics datasets, leverage AI prediction tools and deep learning models for biological problems, and contribute to reproducible computational workflows and team reporting.
Key Responsibilities- Support bioinformatics scientists with high-throughput genomics data analysis.
- Use AI tools for omics data prediction and analysis.
- Apply deep learning models to optimize gene expression in crops.
- Develop and document reproducible methods, workflows, and code.
- Create clear visualizations and summaries of analytical results.
- Contribute to written reports and present findings in team meetings.
- Currently pursuing an MS or PhD in Bioinformatics, Molecular Biology, Genetics, Computer Science, or a related field.
- Proficiency with Linux/Unix command-line environments and shell scripting.
- Experience with analytical coding languages such as Python or R.
- Knowledge of molecular biology and genetics.
- Experience using Git for version control.
- Familiarity with vibe coding and use of agentic AI tools.
- Ability to work with large datasets and implement reproducible computational workflows.
- Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and effective written and verbal communication.
- Experience with high-throughput omics data analysis (e.g., RNA-seq).
- Experience with high-performance computing job schedulers (e.g., SLURM) and cloud computing (e.g., AWS).
- Self-motivated, able to work independently and collaboratively.
- Experience presenting technical work to varied audiences.
- Salary range: $20 - $45 hourly.
