Senior Buying Manager

You will be responsible for sourcing and executing profitable close-out and spot buy opportunities across the above category, with full ownership of product selection, pricing, and quantities. This is a highly entrepreneurial, hands‑on role for someone who loves deals, product, and retail – and is excited to help build something from the ground up.

Key Responsibilities
  • Source, negotiate, and close spot buys and close‑out deals with full decision‑making authority on product, price, and quantities.
  • Develop and manage a robust pipeline of opportunities across multiple non‑apparel categories (FMCG/consumables and hard goods/general merchandise).
  • Build, expand, and actively maintain a strong network of suppliers, traders, and manufacturers in the US and internationally, with a particular focus on close‑out and off‑price deals.
  • Monitor product and retail trends and continuously translate them into attractive, margin‑accretive assortments for our stores.
  • Work closely with European buying colleagues to align on buying principles, deal structures, and best practices.
  • Support the launch of new categories, initiatives, and potentially new geographies in a discount / close‑out context.
  • Visit suppliers, trade shows, and stores frequently to stay close to product, customer behavior, and market dynamics.
  • Contribute to building and refining our US buying processes, tools, and ways of working during the pioneering phase.

Note:

This is an individual‑contributor buying role in the first years. The focus is executing great deals and building the business, not managing a team initially although that will come later with growth.

Experience & Skills
  • Experience in discount retail or close‑out trading/wholesaling, with a strong off‑price mindset.
  • Proven track record in spot buys and close‑out buys, including direct decision‑making authority on product selection, price, and quantities.
  • Relevant Category experience as outlined above.
  • Strong existing network of suppliers, close‑out traders, and manufacturers, ideally both in the US and abroad.
  • Hands‑on, highly commercial, and deeply interested in products, customers, stores, and retail overall.
  • Comfortable working in a lean, entrepreneurial, high‑change environment.
Other
  • Willingness to work full time from the office in N.Carolina when not travelling — relocation support and costs offered if required.
  • Comfortable with travel both within the US and internationally.
