Description of WorkThe Agronomic Services Division’s Nematology Lab is seeking a Nematology Laboratory Technician. The role involves identifying microscopic plant‑parasitic nematodes found in soil, root, and other plant parts. The technician will provide site‑specific recommendations for control that reduce crop loss and protect the environment.
Key responsibilities include:
- Organizing and receiving samples, assigning lab numbers
- Providing customer service and technical support
- Operating custom‑designed laboratory equipment
- Performing molecular diagnostic techniques such as polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and gel electrophoresis
- Managing high‑volume, fast‑paced workflow with occasional seasonal overtime
Recruitment Range – $32,639–$50,000
- Associate degree in a biological science, horticulture, or a closely related curriculum and one year of general laboratory experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Knowledge of good laboratory and safety practices
- Strong written and oral communication skills for reporting results
- Attention to detail over long periods
- Proficiency in microscope work
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
