As an Analytical Chemist (HRMS) in our Durham, NC lab, you'll support the preparation and analysis of environmental samples for EPA Methods 23 and 0023A using high-resolution gas chromatography/high-resolution magnetic sector mass spectrometry (HRGC/HRMS).
The compensation range for this role is $22.00 to $27.00, commensurate with experience, skills, and geographic location.

To thrive in this role, you'll be comfortable taking ownership of the following responsibilities:
- Prepare environmental samples for analysis following EPA Methods 23 and 0023A
- Perform organic sample extraction, concentration, cleanup, and preparation using established laboratory procedures
- Operate and maintain high-resolution magnetic sector GC/HRMS instrumentation following successful training
- Prepare calibration standards, reagents, solvents, and laboratory materials
- Perform routine instrument performance checks and quality control analyses
- Review analytical data for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with method and quality requirements
- Accurately document laboratory activities in accordance with quality system requirements
- Wash, inspect, and prepare laboratory glassware while maintaining a clean and organized laboratory
- Assist with inventory management, reagent preparation, waste disposal, and other laboratory support activities
- Participate in troubleshooting analytical issues and continuous process improvement initiatives
- Follow laboratory safety procedures and maintain compliance with laboratory quality standards

- Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Environmental Chemistry, Environmental Science, or a related scientific discipline
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Ability to follow written procedures while maintaining accurate documentation.
- Ability to work independently after training while contributing effectively within a team environment
- Strong problem-solving skills and a commitment to producing high-quality analytical results
Preferred Qualifications
Candidates with experience in one or more of the following are strongly encouraged to apply:
- Wet chemistry laboratory techniques
- Organic sample extraction
- Sample cleanup procedures (e.g., SPE, column chromatography, solvent concentration)
- Environmental analytical chemistry
- Gas Chromatography (GC)
- Gas Chromatography/Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS)
- High-Resolution Mass Spectrometry (HRMS)
- Operation and maintenance of analytical instrumentation
- Working in an accredited laboratory (ISO/IEC 17025, TNI, GLP, or similar quality systems)
- Experience with EPA Method 23, EPA Method 0023A, Dioxin/Furan analysis, or high-resolution magnetic sector mass spectrometry is a plus but is not required. Comprehensive training will be provided to the selected candidate.
