Occupational Summary
Be You. The Loss Prevention Associate supports Duke Stores by protecting University assets through proactive CCTV surveillance, theft detection, and incident response. This position plays a key role in maintaining a safe and secure retail environment for students, staff, faculty, and visitors while ensuring compliance with University policies and applicable laws.
ResponsibilitiesMonitor and review CCTV systems across Duke Stores locations to identify suspicious activity, theft, and operational concerns. Conduct real‑time surveillance of sales floors and high‑risk areas to proactively detect and deter shoplifting and internal shrinkage. Respond to theft incidents by following established Duke Stores and University protocols, including the safe detention of subjects when appropriate. Partner with store management and staff to support theft prevention efforts and ensure awareness of loss prevention best practices.
Document all theft, safety, and security‑related incidents in a timely manner using clear, accurate, and detailed written reports. Preserve and manage video evidence for internal review and, when necessary, coordination with Duke University Police Department. Assist in identifying trends, patterns, and vulnerabilities to support shrink reduction strategies. Maintain professionalism, discretion, and confidentiality when handling sensitive information. Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Education:
Work requires a High School diploma or equivalent.
Experience:
Work requires 1 year experience with CCTV and surveillance systems, along with basic computer proficiency. Experience in loss prevention, asset protection, security, or a related field preferred. Working knowledge of North Carolina laws related to detention and use of force preferred. OR an equivalent combination of relevant education and/or experience.
