Position Overview
The Property Security Officer reports to the University Police Department and is responsible for protecting the lives and property of all campus personnel and visitors. The role includes monitoring premises, providing customer service, emergency response, and supporting university law enforcement.
Primary PurposeTo monitor halls and offices during working hours; provide customer service, assistance to visitors and motorists, deliver first aid, traffic enforcement, and community policing. Patrol parking lots and campus to detect fires, vandalism, and other hazards, and observe security procedures.
Key Responsibilities- Monitor campus premises and provide hospitality to visitors.
- Respond to emergency situations and provide first aid and support.
- Patrol parking lots, campus grounds, and university facilities to deter crime and detect hazards.
- Assist in traffic control during special events.
- Document incidents, file reports, and testify in court or university hearings.
- Interact with the public in a courteous and professional manner.
- Courteous but firm public interaction.
- Quick, intelligent response in emergencies.
- Independent work with minimal supervision.
- Initiative to complete projects and assignments.
- Analysis and decision‑making skills.
- Judgment and discretion in problem‑solving.
- Flexibility for varied schedules.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, written, and oral communication skills.
High school diploma or equivalency; demonstrated competencies. Some positions require a valid NC Driver's License.
