Occupational SummaryPerform a variety of security and safety‑related functions while safeguarding students, employees, visitors, and property.
Work Performed- Patrol and monitor premises on foot and with motorized conveyance to prevent incidents and detect criminal or suspicious activity.
- Communicate effectively and respectfully with community members, supervisors, and peers.
- Respond promptly to, investigate, and properly document calls for service in accordance with applicable policies and procedures.
- Handle alarms, direct vehicle and pedestrian traffic, provide emergency medical assistance, motorist assistance, enforce parking violations, provide protective escorts, investigate suspicious circumstances, unlock/lock doors, de‑escalate difficult situations, operate detection and electronic monitoring devices, enforce university policies, perform basic vehicle maintenance, and report hazardous or unusual conditions.
Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.
What You Bring Knowledge,Skills and Abilities
- Performance at a satisfactory level in customer focus, teamwork, creative problem solving, continuous learning, and diversity.
- Maintain a calm and professional demeanor during emergency and non‑emergency situations involving individuals and groups.
- Strong written communication skills to submit accurate documentation and communicate effectively.
- Ability to work outdoors during the duration of assigned shifts.
- Availability for 24‑hour coverage, including 12‑hour shifts, rotating days and nights, weekends, holidays, and mandatory overtime.
- Demonstrate acceptable ability to use relevant equipment such as desktop computer, first aid kit, two‑way radios, motorized conveyance, and screening devices.
- Comprehension and accurate application of policies and laws.
- Ability to operate a handheld, portable radio and parking citation device.
- Competitive candidates will have demonstrated ability to stand at a stationary post for the duration of the shift; run in response to calls for service; climb or descend multiple flights of stairs; climb or descend any type of ladder; perform CPR; assist with the lifting and carrying of persons; lift and carry a hand‑held fire extinguisher (up to 40 pounds) and, if necessary, use it to extinguish a fire;
lift and carry assorted job‑related items including, but not limited to pylons, chains, traffic directional/control signs, and vehicle immobilization devices (up to 50 pounds); sit in an upright chair to monitor CCTV camera screens.
