This position is devoted to providing journey electrical, HVAC and emergency power repairs and maintenance. Performs a broad range of specialized and technical repairs requiring advanced knowledge and experience, using independent initiative to troubleshoot and diagnose issues. Decision‑making includes how and when tasks are carried out within an operational process, limited by the selection of the process and establishment of deadlines and outcomes.
Responsible for performing preventative and general maintenance, performing emergency repairs, maintaining records, and coordinating repairs with vendors.
Responsibilities- Perform skilled work in the installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical systems and equipment including troubleshooting fixtures and components; testing for power; replacing lamps and ballasts; replacing and/or installing receptacles and switches; replacing light fixtures; repairing panel boxes; overseeing lift and pump station repairs; assisting with HVAC troubleshooting; repairing wiring; and responding to emergency calls.
- Perform preventative and general maintenance on electrical, HVAC, safety, utility, and related systems, equipment, and devices; diagnose and troubleshoot issues; utilize computer‑controlled and specialized programs, systems, and software; install repairs, replace, test, and/or maintain equipment and systems; monitor contractor operations; and ensure compliance with applicable safety and operational requirements, policies, and procedures.
- Respond to emergency requests and perform emergency repairs; coordinate repairs with vendors and other staff; and identify and troubleshoot system or equipment malfunctions and issues escalated by lower‑level staff.
- Maintain records; gather information; monitor and track supply usage; and obtain price quotes for repairs.
- Maintain heating, ventilation, and cooling equipment, including responding to emergency requests; performing general and preventative maintenance; troubleshooting problems; working with contractors and performing energy management functions.
- High School Diploma or Equivalent (GED, HiSET, TASC)
- One additional year of technical or vocational training
- Three years of related journey trades experience.
- Valid, unrestricted, North Carolina driver's license or, if holding another state’s license, willing and able to obtain a valid NC driver's license within 60 days of hire.
- Color vision required for some assignments.
- North Carolina Electrical Limited license preferred for electrical repairs; CFC universal refrigerant certification preferred for HVAC positions.
- Experience repairing and maintaining electrical control systems.
- Ability to complete job‑related training including forklift operation, lock out/tag out, confined space, ladder safety, respirator, and emergency evacuation training.
- Position is critical to emergency operations and will report to work despite or because of an emergency or disaster event.
- Subject to on‑call, recall, and after‑hours work and work during inclement weather.
