Utilities Maintenance Technician
Volt is immediately hiring a Utilities Maintenance Technician at Durham, NC. As a Utilities Maintenance Technician, you will:
Support and improve facility maintenance efforts including preventive/predictive maintenance, repairs, troubleshooting, and new equipment installation. Participate in plant shutdown activities, coach in problem-solving, and support training for junior team members.
Essential Functions:
- Refrigeration systems operation, maintenance, and response.
- Preventive maintenance and timely corrective actions.
- Document activities in SAP and communicate in shift turnover reports.
- Partner with process owners to improve equipment performance and reliability.
- Conduct site rounds and inspections of utilities.
- Drive continuous improvement using clean concepts.
- Develop maintenance procedures, plans, and spare parts lists.
- Train and instruct other technicians in specialized areas.
- Lead teams in root cause analysis and problem resolution.
- Support installation, commissioning, and qualification of utilities systems.
- Follow all safety and environmental requirements.
Physical Requirements:
- Move equipment/supplies up to 33 lbs.
- Stand for up to 12-hour shifts.
- Occasionally climb ladders, work at heights, or in confined spaces.
- Work in cold environments, loud noise, or outdoor conditions.
- Pass exam for powered industrial trucks (driver's license not required).
Qualifications:
- Associate's degree in relevant field (or HS diploma/GED with 4+ years' experience).
- 2+ years in mechanical, electrical, or control systems.
- Ability to lead and guide technicians preferred.
- Experience with SAP/CMMS preferred.
- Proficiency in schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical documents.
- Knowledge of utilities systems: compressed air, steam, vacuum, chilled water, RO/pre-treatment, WFI, clean steam.
- Proficiency in HVAC/R, refrigeration (ammonia preferred), and air handling equipment.
- Electrical experience with 120v–480v systems required, higher voltage a plus.
- Certifications such as EPA 608, CARO/RETA, or NC Electrical License preferred.
This is a Contract full time opportunity.
Pay Rate: $26.00 - $30.00 per hour
