Hiring Range: $49,737.00
Hours:
7:00 a.m.
- 3:30 p.m.
This position is devoted to maintaining and repairing City property, vehicles, and roads through the performance of semi-skilled and skilled labor and technical work.
Responsibilities- Perform routine and specialized skilled labor, technical repairs, or operation of heavy equipment.
- Assist in training staff and serve as a lead worker over other staff.
- Set up safe work zones and train and guide less experienced staff in assignments.
- Load and unload heavy equipment onto trailers and tow equipment to/from job sites and repair facilities.
- Perform vehicle and equipment pre/post trip inspections; monitor and replenish fluids; perform basic corrective repairs.
- Drive dump trucks on a regular basis.
- Operate jump jack tamper, 5-ton roller, asphalt paver, and tack kettle.
- Assist with traffic control device installation and flagging operations for stationary and moving work zones.
- Submit neat and complete written and/or electronic records including time sheets, maintenance history reports, pre/post trip inspection forms, and other cost records.
- Check and clean basins.
- Utilize performance management system to document work progress and performance.
- Perform other duties of a similar nature and level as assigned.
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Four (4) or more years of related specialized maintenance and/or heavy equipment operation experience.
- Valid NC Class A Commercial Driver's License.
- Proficiency in operating an asphalt paver, backhoe, excavator, rubber tire loader, and 10-ton roller.
- Familiar with placement, set-up, and finishing of asphalt and use of hand tools required to perform these tasks.
- Experience digging out asphalt cuts.
- Experience loading/unloading heavy equipment onto trailers and towing to designated locations.
- Experience working outdoors in various weather conditions.
- Ability to utilize communication and interpersonal skills when interacting with coworkers, supervisors, the general public, and others.
- Knowledge of DOT traffic laws and requirements applicable to heavy equipment operation.
- Position designated as a Group 1, meaning it is critical to emergency operations; reporting may be required in an emergency or disaster event.
- Subject to stand-by/recall and after-hours work and work during inclement weather.
- Required to operate a service truck and/or dump truck outfitted with a plow based upon class of license possessed during winter weather operations.
Applicants will be required to complete a field assessment to evaluate ability to proficiently operate a backhoe, skid steer, rubber tire loader, and 10-ton roller.
