The Multi-Trades Inspector performs inspections for building construction and existing structures for compliance with applicable building trades and related codes and ordinances. This position provides technical interpretation of codes and regulations as needed and prepares and maintains all required documentation. Compensation is based on standard certifications held and experience in inspections. Position is non-exempt and eligible for overtime.
- Multi-Trades Inspector I: $26.45/hr - $44.96/hr
- Multi-Trades Inspector II: $27.77/hr - $47.21/hr
- Multi-Trades Inspector III: $30.62/hr - $52.05/hr
Brunswick County Code Administration utilizes a career ladder and certification incentive program for advancement which allows employees to further their career in the inspections field as certifications are attained.
Career LadderInspector I:
- Must possess a Probationary Level 1 certification in at least one trade (trades include: building, electrical, plumbing or mechanical) within 30 days of hire and will be required to obtain Standard Level 1 certifications in all four trades (Building, Electrical, Plumbing and Mechanical) within three years.
Inspector II:
- Must possess Standard or Probationary Level 2 certifications in three trades (trades include: building, electrical, plumbing or mechanical); or possess a Standard Level 3 certification in one trade and a Standard Level 1 certification in another trade.
Inspector III:
- Must possess Standard or Probationary Level 3 certifications in three trades (trades include: building, electrical, plumbing or mechanical); or two trades with Standard Level 3 certifications and the two other trades with Standard Level 2 certifications.
- Upon obtaining Level I Standard: $1,000
- Upon obtaining Level II Standard: $1,500
- Upon obtaining Level III Standard: $2,500
Trades Include:
Building, Plumbing, Electrical, and Mechanical
High School or Technical School diploma supplemented by one to two years of experience in building inspection or construction; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
Tasks involve some combination of climbing and balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching and crawling, and the lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of moderate weight (up to 20 pounds). Tasks may require traversing uneven terrain, entering confined spaces and/or climbing ladders during field inspections.
