This position is for an Engineering Laboratory Services and Support Technician who is under general supervision. Performs basic to moderately complex technical tasks on Carrier Air‑Cooled Chillers which contribute to the planning and execution of engineering projects. Collaborates with higher level support staff to confer with engineers on details and implications of test procedures and results. This is a 2nd shift role.
Key Responsibilities:- Will work to perform tests and evaluate results for Carrier Air‑Cooled Chillers in an engineering laboratory.
- Connect and troubleshoot electrical, mechanical and refrigeration systems on Charlotte manufactured equipment
- Familiarity with electrical work, including 460‑3‑60 machinery
- Familiarity with HVAC operation, refrigerant handling, and EPA certification is a plus
- Experience with pumps, VFDs, boilers, control valves, and PLC operation is a plus
- LO/TO controls troubleshooting and Arc Flash training is helpful
- Works under moderate supervision to provide technical support to engineers on a variety of engineering tasks
- Performs basic to moderately complex technical tasks which contribute to the planning and execution of engineering projects
- Operates, inspects and maintains test setups and equipment to detect malfunctions
- Collaborates with higher‑level support staff to confer with engineers on details and implications of test procedures and results
- High School Diploma or GED
- 2+ years of experience with HVAC Service and Systems
- 1+ years of experience with hand/pneumatic tools
- Associates Degree strongly preferred
- Trade Technical/Business School Certificate or Skilled Trades Apprenticeship strongly preferred
- HVAC or other large commercial equipment testing in a laboratory environment
- Commercial HVAC Industrial or operation experience preferred
- Experience with Instrumentation set up, troubleshooting and calibration
- Use of laboratory equipment with pressure, temperature, and electrical measurements is very important
- Strong PC skills
- Strong mechanical, electrical, troubleshooting background, and be mechanically inclined.
--strongly preferred - Experience with VFD’s pumps, cooling towers, heavy electrical switchgears, motor controls centers
- Refrigerant certification preferred
- Experience or familiarity with forklift and overhead crane operation preferred
- Measurement techniques, test report writing, systems troubleshooting, data integrity and traceability
- Reading and interpreting complex drawings, schematics, and blueprints
