Primary PurposeThe primary purpose of this position is to perform a variety of tasks ranging from routine and unskilled to highly skilled in the mechanical trades including Electrical, HVAC, Plumbing, and Welding. Must apply methods and general procedures of applicable trades/maintenance techniques and develop skills in procedures, techniques, tools, materials and/or equipment appropriate to trade. May be asked to perform work in a specialty area or perform tasks requiring specialized skills in multiple trades.
Tasks may include maintenance, repair, placement, fabrication, installation, alteration, construction and design of facility components requiring the application of skills in planning, problem‑solving, attention to detail, teamwork, communication and adherence to safety. May serve as lead technician and/or crew leader, directing the work of others. Position may be required to possess and maintain required certification, licensure, educational level, and/or experience criteria as applicable to the tasks being performed and follow applicable building codes.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
• Working knowledge of the operation, maintenance and repair of high pressure steam‑generation, condensation and distribution systems and general knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and mechanical systems.
• Ability to operate electronic controls, power tools and hand tools; lift up to 50 pounds; wear a full or half‑face respirator; climb a ladder; crawl in confined spaces.
• Self‑mandated independent work with minimal supervision; initiative to see projects through to completion.
• Must learn, interpret and analyze information to make decisions; exercise judgment and discretion in problem solving; plan, prioritize and organize workflow.
• Work flexible schedules; excellent analytical and organizational skills with written and oral communication skills.
• Valid driver’s license required.
High school diploma or equivalency; or demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work. Some positions may require special licenses or certification.

- Perform emergency, unscheduled repairs to HVAC equipment, mechanical systems, and building controls.
