Low Voltage Installation Specialist Be You.

The Office of Information Technology (OIT) is seeking a Low Voltage Installation Specialist to join our Low Voltage Installation Project Team. This is an exciting opportunity to help build and support the technology infrastructure that powers Duke University's teaching, research, healthcare, and administrative environments.

In this hands-on role, you will work on new construction projects, major renovations, and technology upgrades across Duke University and Duke University Health System facilities. You'll install, test, and support the critical cabling and infrastructure that enable network connectivity, wireless services, access control, video surveillance, and other essential technology systems throughout campus.

Minimum Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of five years of experience in communications cabling installation, maintenance, and repair.
  • Experience working on commercial construction and major renovation projects.
  • Experience installing and supporting structured cabling systems.
  • Valid North Carolina driver's license.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with customers, contractors, and project stakeholders.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Technical college, trade school education, or equivalent industry training.
  • OTDR fiber testing experience.
  • Fiber optic fusion splicing experience.
  • DAS (Distributed Antenna System) coaxial termination and testing experience.
  • Experience supporting enterprise technology infrastructure projects.
Other Requirements
  • Ability to lift up to 100 pounds as part of normal job duties.
  • Ability to work in confined spaces, communication rooms, ceilings, and construction environments.
  • Ability to safely use ladders, hand tools, and cable installation equipment.
  • Availability for periodic overtime and weekend work to meet project commitments.
Work Arrangement
  • Onsite. The work is performed on-site across Duke University and Duke Health facilities, including active construction and renovation projects.
Be Bold. What You'll Do
  • Install, terminate, test, and label Cat6A and single‑mode fiber optic cabling for enterprise technology systems.
  • Deploy and support wireless access points, structured cabling systems, and related network infrastructure.
  • Install and configure IP-based video surveillance systems and associated hardware.
  • Implement card access and physical security technologies throughout university facilities.
  • Support Distributed Antenna System (DAS) infrastructure installations, including passive devices and cabling components.
  • Collaborate with construction teams, contractors, network engineers, Duke University Police, and other stakeholders on technology projects.
  • Ensure all installations meet Duke standards for quality, testing, labeling, and documentation.
  • Prioritize and manage multiple projects and assignments while meeting deadlines and customer expectations.
