SOCIAL WORKER III – CHILD PROTECTIVE SERVICES
GENERAL DEFINITION OF WORK
The primary purpose of this position is to provide therapeutic case work services to children in custody or placement responsibility of DSS and to children who are released for adoption. This includes recruiting/licensing foster homes, case management of children involved in foster care, working with adoptive parents, working with Child Protective Services investigators, and arranging for services for families involved in child abuse/neglect situations.
Will also work with lawyers, judges, families and children, service providers from other agencies, and licensing agencies in the performance of their duties.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Must have considerable knowledge of the laws and policies related to the neglect/abuse of children. Must have considerable knowledge of treatment facilities available within area and how to access these services including behavior, group home, domestic violence, mental health, substance abuse and medical centers. Must be able to communicate clearly; facilitate adaptive coping responses; build rapport; complete reports timely and maintain effective working relationships with a variety of clients, co-workers and community organizations.
MINIMUM EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Master’s degree in social work from an accredited school of social work;
Bachelor’s degree in social work from an accredited school of social work and completion of the Child Welfare Collaborative;
Bachelor’s degree in social work from an accredited school of social work and one year directly related experience;
Master’s degree in counseling in a human services field and one year of social work or counseling;
Bachelor’s degree in a human services field from an accredited college or university and two years directly related experience;
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university and three years of directly related experience.
