Youth Counselor (S)

The Division of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention seeks a counselor to assist court‑involved youth.

Responsibilities
  • Monitor and supervise juveniles while housed, at school and during all daily activities.
  • Maintain a secure environment and routinely monitor juveniles.
  • Complete daily records documenting safety violations, security breaches, shift activity briefings, crisis interventions, behavioral issues and youth progress updates.
  • Communicate treatment plans to clients and provide counseling and therapeutic intervention.
  • Serve as a member of a therapeutic treatment team and utilize a range of counseling techniques, including crisis interventions.
  • Implement individual and group treatment plans, administer and interpret assessment tools, and review treatment strategies to achieve rehabilitation goals.
  • Participate in the development of individual treatment, educational, vocational, and community reintegration programs.
  • Perform physical and mechanical restraints as required, and administer medication.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution and two years of experience with juvenile/family clients or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of adolescent development.
  • Demonstrated counseling skills and crisis intervention experience.
  • Experience working with minority groups and multidisciplinary service teams.
  • Must be physically capable of restraining juveniles and defending self after training.
  • Pass required criminal background, drug screening, psychological, sexual risk, physical, and citizenship checks.
  • Ability to work shifts, weekends, holidays, and evenings.
Benefits
  • Full‑time 40‑hour schedule with state benefits: paid vacation, sick leave, holidays, retirement, and health insurance.
  • Annual salary increases with step pay plan:
    Step 0 – $41,558 to Step 6 – $54,078.
  • Shift premium 10% for 2nd or 3rd shift.
