Overview

Position:
Youth Counselor (S) | Position Number: [not provided] | Grade: NC08
- Monitor and supervise juveniles while housed, at school, and during daily activities.
- Maintain a secure environment and routinely monitor and observe juveniles.
- Complete daily records to include documenting safety violations and security breaches.
- Provide crisis intervention, report youth progress updates, and communicate treatment plans to clients.
- Serve as a member of a therapeutic treatment team and utilize a range of counseling techniques in crisis interventions.
- Implement individual and group treatment plans to effect behavioral changes.
- Administer and interpret a variety of assessment tools to evaluate treatment progress and inform treatment strategies.
- Participate in the development of individual treatment, educational, vocational, and community reintegration programs.
- Administer physical and mechanical restraints as trained and required.
- Coordinate with the treatment team to support rehabilitation goals.
- Minimum Education and Experience
:
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution and two years of experience working with the juvenile/family client population and/or related human services experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. - Demonstrated knowledge of adolescent development (preferred). Demonstrated counseling skills and crisis intervention experience (preferred). Experience working with minority groups and with a multidisciplinary service team (preferred).
- Must be physically capable of applying proper methods and procedures to restrain juveniles and defend self after proper training.
- Shift work, including weekends and holidays, is required.
- Step pay plan based on related education and experience; initial salary based on qualifications (ranges supplied in posting).
- Necessary Special Qualifications – Selected applicants must meet the hiring and training standards established by the NC CJETC, complete Juvenile Justice Officer Basic Training certification (four weeks), pass background checks, drug screening, psychological and sexual risk screening, and a physical examination. Must be a US citizen, at least 20 years old, have a valid driver's license.

Full-time; requires shift work with variable schedules including evenings, weekends, and holidays. - Benefits:
