of Work

We are looking for candidates who have a passion for helping court‑involved youth. We are Working Together to Strengthen North Carolina’s Youth and Families!

Job Duties
  • Monitor and supervise juveniles while housed, at school, and during all daily activities.
  • Maintain a secure environment and routinely monitor and observe juveniles.
  • Complete daily records, including documenting safety violations and security breaches, and briefing shift personnel on crisis intervention events, behavioral problems/issues, and youth progress updates.
  • Provide feedback to the treatment team on juveniles and communicate information regarding treatment plans to clients.
  • Provide counseling and therapeutic intervention; serve as a member of a therapeutic treatment team; utilize a range of counseling techniques and crisis intervention skills.
  • Implement individual and group treatment plans to effect behavioral changes.
  • Administer, score, and interpret various assessment tools to evaluate treatment progress and review treatment strategies to achieve rehabilitation goals.
  • Participate in the development of individual treatment, educational, vocational, and community reintegration programs.
  • Apply physical and mechanical restraints and administer medication as required.

Salary range: $41,558–$54,078 per year.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of adolescent development.
  • Demonstrated experience with counseling skills.
  • Demonstrated experience with crisis intervention techniques.
  • Demonstrated experience working with minority groups.
  • Demonstrated experience working with a multidisciplinary service team.

Physical demands
:
Must be physically capable of applying restraints and defending self after training. Physical demands will be discussed during interview.

Shift Work Requirements

Shift work is required, including weekends, holidays, and evenings. Eligible for a shift premium (10%) on the 2nd or 3rd shift.

Benefits

This full‑time position (40 hours per week) offers state benefits including paid vacation, paid sick leave, paid holidays, retirement, and health insurance.

Minimum Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution and two years of experience working with juvenile/family client populations or related human services, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Additional Requirements
  • Must hold or be able to obtain required documentation for Juvenile Justice Officer certification (e.g., diploma).
  • Must pass criminal background check, drug screening, psychological test, sexual risk screening, and physical (vision and hearing) assessment.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen, at least 20 years old, and hold a valid driver’s license.
  • Must complete the Juvenile Justice Officer Basic Training program (three weeks, includes classroom and physically demanding training).
