This position is eligible for a tiered $4,000.00 critical position bonus.

General Description:

Employees in this class are responsible for the total process of determining/redetermining applicant/client eligibility in a County Department of Social Services for a single income maintenance program which includes the intake, processing, and review functions; or performing one of the above functions for three or more of the income maintenance programs; or performing two or more functions in the Medicaid-Long Term Care Program.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Work involves performing all of the following functions; (intake, processing and review) in one of the following income maintenance programs; (Medicaid or County Special Assistance); or in performing all functions in one of the income maintenance programs; or in performing two or more functions in the Medicaid-Long Term Care Program. In the intake process, employees are responsible for obtaining all pertinent data concerning the clients' family composition, financial, employment and health status.

Employees may also be involved in processing clients' application through the verification of all information obtained during intake. Work may also involve the redetermination or review of the clients' case on a periodic basis, in order to reverify the clients' eligibility for continued participation in the program. The employees' responsibility for determining the clients' initial or continuing eligibility for any given program will depend upon the function or combination of functions performed.

Employees with lead worker responsibilities require greater familiarity with program policies and processing functions in order to correct any errors detected during second party reviews.

Selected candidate will be responsible for processing applications, determining and re-determining eligibility and managing changes for Medicaid recipients. Include communicating with clients, conducting interviews, collecting and verifying information, and entering data accurately. The role requires managing an assigned caseload while following all policies and procedural guidelines. This position also supports clients during vulnerable times and helps connect them with additional community resources.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Considerable knowledge of Medicaid programs. Strong organizational and communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to listen effectively and explain information clearly. General understanding of public assistance programs and community services. Analytical and critical thinking skills, along with compassion and sound judgement. Good math skills and proficiency with computers. Ability to read, interpret and apply rules, regulations and procedures.

Ability to multitask in a fast-paced, high-volume environment. Ability to complete casework tasks within established time frames.

Minimum

Education and Experience Requirements:

One year of experience as an Income Maintenance Caseworker; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
