Labcorp is seeking a Director, HR AI Solutions & Architecture who combines strategic thinking with hands‑on engineering expertise to lead the integration of AI solutions within the Human Resources function. This role will be pivotal in shaping the future of HR technology, managing AI‑driven HR strategies, identifying high‑impact AI use cases, designing innovative solutions, and building intelligent systems that transform employee experiences and enhance workforce effectiveness and operational efficiency.
A key part of the role will be leveraging IBM watsonx solutions to deliver scalable, ethical, and impactful AI applications. You will work closely with HR leaders, technology partners, and vendors to orchestrate an agentic AI layer and integrate with enterprise platforms such as Workday and Service Now, establishing a strong product feedback loop, influencing strategy while delivering cutting‑edge AI tools that drive efficiency, personalization, and automation across HR processes.
Applicants who live within 35 miles of either the Burlington, NC or Durham, NC location will follow a hybrid schedule. This schedule includes a minimum of three in‑office days per week at an assigned location, either Burlington or Durham, supporting both collaboration and flexibility.
Key Responsibilities- Strategy & Portfolio Leadership
Partner with HR leadership and stakeholders to identify and prioritize use cases that align with business goals for AI‑driven transformation.
Define architecture and roadmap for AI solutions within the HR technology ecosystem.
Evaluate emerging AI technologies and trends, with a focus on IBM watsonx, and recommend innovative applications for HR.
- Architecture & Engineering Ownership
Design, build, and deploy full‑stack AI applications using watsonx and other modern frameworks tailored to HR use cases (e.g., talent acquisition, people operations, employee engagement, workforce analytics, learning & development).
Build and maintain an agentic orchestration layer to enable intelligent workflows across platforms (Workday, Service Now, etc.).
Implement APIs, microservices, and integrations to ensure seamless connectivity between systems.
- Ethics, Risk, & Governance
Provide guidance and training to HR teams on AI adoption and responsible use.
Document technical designs, maintain code quality, and contribute to best practices for AI development and organizational knowledge sharing.
Work with vendors and internal teams to ensure AI solutions comply with security, data privacy, fairness, and ethical AI practices.
Monitor and evaluate AI models for bias, accuracy, and performance.
- Innovation and Thought Leadership
Work closely with HR stakeholders to translate business needs into technical requirements.
Stay ahead of emerging AI trends and technologies, ensuring our HR function remains future‑ready.
Represent the organization in AI forums, conferences, and internal leadership discussions.
- Team Leadership & Organization Enablement
Manage small but growing team of 1‑3 developers / senior developers /full stack developers
Support complex discoveries, design, and product launches, as needed
Provide guidance, coaching and performance feedback to ensure individual and team success
Establish KPIs and value recognition metrics
Bachelor’s or advanced degree in Computer Science, Data Science, AI/ML, or related field.
Technical Expertise
Required:10yrs experience of a proven track record leading digital transformation projects
2yrs experience of delivering solutions integrating AI capabilities with enterprise systems, preferably in HR or related domains, (e.g HRIS, CRM, ERP, case management).
Understanding of software engineering languages such as Python, SQL, JavaScript (Node.js, React), and cloud‑native development (AWS, Azure, or GCP) to facilitate effective solutioning between functional business and technical teams.
Hands‑on experience with AI/ML frameworks (PyTorch, Tensor Flow, scikit‑learn) and LLM platforms (IBM watsonx, OpenAI, etc.)
Knowledge of prompt engineering, retrieval‑augmented generation, agent memory, and MCP (model context protocol).
