Piper Companies is hiring a Software Engineer (Intermediate – Senior) for an innovative life insurance and annuities company located in Durham, NC. The Software Engineer will join a growing technology team focused on building data‑driven solutions, enhancing customer experiences, and developing scalable applications that drive the business forward. The Software Engineer must be based in or near Durham, NC to support a hybrid work schedule
.
- Design, develop, test, and maintain scalable full‑stack applications and APIs
- Build and enhance backend services using Node.js and JavaScript technologies
- Develop modern, responsive user interfaces using React
- Design and implement cloud‑based solutions within AWS
- Collaborate with business stakeholders, product teams, and engineers to deliver technical solutions
- Participate in architecture discussions, code reviews, and technical decision‑making
- Troubleshoot and resolve application performance and production issues
- Contribute to best practices for software development, testing, and deployment
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or a related technical field
- Strong full‑stack development experience with a heavier focus on backend development
- Extensive JavaScript development experience
- Strong experience in Java script (ideally React / Node)
- Experience building and consuming RESTful APIs
- Cloud experience with AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud
- Strong understanding of SQL and relational databases
- Must be based in or near Durham, NC and available for hybrid schedule
