General Statement of DutiesUnder general supervision, performs various tasks related to recreation programs while exemplifying Graham Recreation and Parks Department’s Vision and Mission.
An employee in this class completes field work as related to athletic and general recreation programs and facilities. Work is performed under the immediate supervision of the Supervisors of the Recreation Division. Work is reviewed for ability to follow directions and timely, accurate completion of assigned tasks. Positions in this classification are not exempt from the overtime pay requirements of the Fair Labor Standards Act.
In addition, employees in this class are subject to specific responsibilities for Center Facility Attendants and/or Athletic Facility Attendants which are available upon request and will be presented during the interview process.
Illustrative Examples of Work- Prepare, Maintain and Secure recreation facilities and athletic fields for daily operations, general programs, and/or athletic games and practices;
- Establish authority in the facility by greeting the public as they enter and provide a positive customer experience;
- Monitor the facilities’ activities and outside areas for appropriate behavior;
- Maintain appropriate records, accident/incident reports and daily logs;
- Communicate with outside vendors, instructors, games officials and/or coaches to insure activities are completed in a timely manner;
- Additional duties may include assisting in departmental special event set-up, execution and breakdown;
- Other related duties as assigned.
- Strong customer service skills to effectively communicate with citizens;
- Ability to operate a computer and/or simple tools;
- Ability to resolve minor issues, conflict resolution and manage emergency situations;
- Ability to report any maintenance problems or unsafe conditions;
- Knowledge of rules and regulations of various recreational activities and /or sports;
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions;
- Ability to maintain effective working relationships and work independently.
Work in this position is light work (exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or negligible amounts of force constantly to move objects). Physical activities include balancing, climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, crawling, turning, reaching, standing for extended periods, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, carrying, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing and repetitive motions for the purpose of instructing/leading recreation programs.
Position may require operating assigned equipment and vehicles as needed. The employee must have the visual acuity to prepare and analyze data/figures and is exposed to indoor and outdoor environmental conditions and contact with potentially infectious bodily fluids.
Shifts include morning, afternoon, evening and/or weekends and holidays.
A valid North Carolina driver’s license and high school diploma or equivalent is preferred;
Applicants under age 16 must provide a valid NCDOL worker’s permit;
Applicant should possess First Aid/CPR/AED certification or complete a certification course offered by the City of Graham; attendance at additional training offered by the City of Graham, including diversity training, is required;
Selected candidate must submit to and pass a background check and drug screen prior to employment.
