Hourly Rate: $22.30- $25.82/ hour

Hours:

Shifts vary up to 40 hours per week, Monday-Friday 8:30 am-6:30 pm, Saturday-Sunday 12:00 pm-6:30 pm

Position provides on‑site management of seasonal aquatics facilities in accordance with the high standards of the American Red Cross Safety Program. Responsibilities include opening and closing facilities daily, preparing the facility for the public, providing supervision, and cleaning and routine maintenance of pool, bathhouse, and equipment. Incumbent provides swimming instructions, safety oversight, administrative support, and customer service. Hours vary and may require evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Some hours may be remote, to include online trainings & meetings, before outdoor pools open mid‑June. If you are not able to report in person before mid‑June, and/or cannot continue working after July, you are still encouraged to apply!

Duties / Responsibilities
  • Supervision of opening and closing of the aquatic facility.
  • Maintains order and discipline, enforces rules and regulations.
  • Directs and conducts all water safety courses and swimming meets specified by the department.
  • Serves as lead staff on site, providing leadership over lifeguard staff, facilitates group job training, assesses quality of work, and assists staff with duties.
  • Fulfills lifeguard responsibilities such as evaluating dangerous situations, preventing injury, and providing first aid to patrons.
  • Maintains pool supplies and equipment, places equipment on the pool deck in preparation of daily operations.
  • Calls swimmers out of water during electrical storms or torrential rains.
  • Watches children as young as the age of 10 without adult supervision and ensures that children take breaks and drink water during their swim time.
  • Keeps water clean by adjusting chemical balance and maintains chemical logs.
  • Performs general maintenance and cleaning of facility and equipment as needed.
  • Provides customer service by addressing patron questions and complaints.
  • Coordinates requests with General Services, signs off on chemical deliveries, and addresses areas of concern on site.
  • Completes a daily bank deposit and financial statement, ensuring accuracy.
  • Maintains responsibility for accurate completion of accident reports.
  • Follows proper procedure for any emergency that may arise concerning the facility.
Knowledge Of
  • American Red Cross Lifeguard standards and regulations.
  • American Red Cross Swimming and Water Safety Manual.
  • Swimming pool filtration and filter operation; balancing swimming pool chemicals
  • Best practices for handling money.

  • Leading and providing on‑site supervision to staff and delegating responsibility.
  • Leading and directing swimming instructional programs.
  • Communicating rules and regulations effectively to individuals and groups.

Qualifications
  • High School diploma or equivalent (GED, HiSet, TASC).
  • Two (2) years of direct aquatics experience.
  • At least 18 years of age.
  • Valid North Carolina Class C Driver’s License with a satisfactory driving record.
  • Must have and maintain valid American Red Cross Certificates (or equivalent certifications by another nationally recognized agency which are valid at all pool facilities):
    • Lifeguarding/First Aid/CPR/AED
    • Certified Pool Operator

Available to work on June 19 and July 4, 2026.

Available to work at least 20 hours per week and up to 40 hours per week.

Available to work on Saturdays and Sundays.
