Hourly Rate: $20.92 - $23.07/hour
Work Day/Times: 18-25 hours per week, Monday‑Friday shifts between 7:30 am – 6:00 pm with some evenings/weekends.
Position provides transportation for children, teens, and adults, to and from approved sites on department passenger buses in a safe and reliable manner. Driver will take vehicles in for periodic maintenance and repairs and is responsible for fueling their assigned vehicle. Driver makes and follows established routes and uses tact and interpersonal skills to interact positively with program participants and staff.
Work requires safe and appropriate operations of vehicles in accordance with City policies and traffic regulations.
- Drives to and from program site on an assigned schedule, waiting for program participants as needed.
- Takes vehicles in for maintenance and minor repairs, completes vehicle pre‑trip and post‑trip inspection log, and is responsible for fueling vehicles.
- Maintains vehicle and Departmental records, submits vehicle condition and mileage report, submits attendance and other reports as required.
- Ensures the safe loading, travel, and unloading of all passengers which may include loading and unloading passengers with disabilities and operating a wheelchair lift.
- Administers basic first aid as needed.
- Traffic laws and regulations governing the operation of CDL vehicles.
- Basic city layout and major streets.
- Safe driving principles.
- Determining and following routes.
- Communicating instructions effectively.
- Interacting tactfully with program participants and staff.
- Keeping accurate logs.
- High School diploma or equivalent (GED, HiSet, TASC).
- Three (3) years driving experience operating vehicles requiring a Commercial Driver’s License.
- At least 1 year of experience transporting passengers in the operation of vehicles requiring a Commercial Driver’s License, with passenger endorsement.
- Must be at least 21 years of age.
- Valid North Carolina CDL Class B Driver’s License with Passenger Endorsement and a satisfactory driving record.
- Experience with vehicle Pre‑Trip and Post‑Trip Inspections.
- Experience driving children and youth.
- Available Monday‑Friday mornings and afternoons to work from 7:30 am – 6:00 pm.
